Subject: Giant Abacus available
Count On, the continuation project for Maths Year 2000, has a
giant abacus available for a good home. Main requirement is that it is open
to the public, ideally somewhere that children, families and adults with
poor basic skills attend. If possible in England, but any home considered.
The abacus is just under 5m X 3m and weighs about 400kg. It is designed to
be used horizontally, but comes with wall fittings and will swing up to the
vertical to make space.
If you can offer it a good home and pay for the transport, AND you can take
it from its current home (the Science Museum, London) before 20th July 2001
please contact Lewis Pike ([log in to unmask]) off the list.
If you would like it and there are other considerations (dates, small
amounts of money required) to make the deal work please contact me anyway,
otherwise we will be forced to scrap the abacus.
We would ask that you display our logo and web address as providers of the
display, and if you require small amounts of money there may be another
sponsor (an educational charity) who would require a similar mention
involved. Beyond that there are no other constraints.
Lewis.
