The sharp-eyed among you will have seen the ad in Monday's Guardian inviting
applications for several exciting positions on the Royal Society's Science
Communication team. Thei nformation is on our website www.royalsoc.ac.uk
<http://www.royalsoc.ac.uk> and the Guardian's - www.jobsunlimited.co.uk
<http://www.jobsunlimited.co.uk> . We need
- a Science in Society manager who also runs, with an existing officer, our
public programme of lectures and events (scale £20,910 - £34,292). The
Science in Society programme involves, among other things, running a series
of public dialogue meetings outside London, setting up a pairing scheme with
MPs, andg etting an interactive feedback web page up and running. Lots of
networking and the chance to influence the evolution of the Society itself.
- that manager needs an officer, a new post, to help to run the new Science
in Society programme (scale £16,205 - £24,647); event management,
secretariat assistance to the manager, conference logistics, web management
and some design/publicity work.
- an officer, another new post, to assist the COPUS manager (£16,205 -
£24,647); an exciting job as COPUS comes back on to the stage as the
one-stop shop for science communication in the UK. Projects to run such as
grants schemes and the Science Book Prize, workshops and fora to organise,
web-based information networks to develop and much contact with external
individuals and organisations contributing to opening up public access to
science.
- and an officer to assist with the Summer Science Exhibition, media and
communications training for scientists and other events (£16,205 - 24,647).
Events coordination and marketing are a large part of this job, plus a
certain amount of meetings administration.
The Science Communication section runs a range of programmes aimed at both
scientists and non-scientists, from the above activities and the two day
scientific discussion meetings to the education programme and scientific
awards. There is alwayss omething going on - usually several things at once!
- and we are looking for bright cheerful people with a real commitment to
science communication. All of these jobs will be what you make of them - and
we want you to make a difference.
