Evaluating the impact of 'screening' for localised prostate
cancer
Research in Primary Care (1 full-time or 2 part-time GPs)
We wish to appoint one or more general
practitioners/primary care researchers to lead and
co-ordinate the recruitment of general practices to a
multi-centre randomised controlled trial of the impact of
PSA testing on prostate cancer mortality, quality of life
and resource use. The study is linked to the £13 million
NHS-funded ProtecT study. The successful applicant(s) will
be responsible for recruiting general practices in nine UK
centres in the north and west, explaining the study
rationale and methods, and obtaining informed consent for
participation. The post will suit experienced general
practitioner(s) or primary care researchers with excellent
communication skills and an interest in medical research.
The post is offered initially for up to 12 months,
commencing as soon as possible, with the potential for
extension for four years. For general practitioners the
salary will be on the NHS consultant scale up to £58,200.
