I'm sorry for the inconvenience this password system will cause some
people, and I'm going to ask our Jiscmail helper if there are alternative
procedures available for those who need them during the workday, for
instance. A number of listees already have both mail and no-mail
subscriptions under their home and work e-addresses for convenience, and if
this would make archive checking more convenient for others, I'll be glad to
set that additional listing up for you. Just send me the second e-address
back-channel, and once you've received the automatic notification from
Jiscmail, all you'll need to do is register a second password.
I also want to assure everyone that we're not being targeted (and neither is
the British-Poets list) by a single malicious virus-spreader, and with
Sircam the worst of the three in circulation among subscribers to one or
both lists lately, it's embarrassing enough for those listees whose
mailboxes were infected such that viral attachments _appeared_ to be sent
under their names. That's how Sircam works, and it means there's less reason
for paranoia, not more. Follow the links you've been helpfully given by John
Tranter and Nonstop-in-NY to those excellent informational sources if you
need the lowdown on Sircam, especially, and please don't worry that the
human problem we've had lately is either the source of anything viral or
made more problematic by a concurrent viral epidemic that everybody's being
touched by.
Two problems--with two different solutions. Both solutions are in process
already (individually for those who caught a virus), and both problems
should be history quite soon. Please bear with us as we try to ensure that
Poetryetc remains a good space for the discussion of our mutual passion.
Thanks,
Candice
