What Alison and Ken are developing looks really
interesting, and in terms of a 'poetics' it would seem
the world over is experiencing the sort of mismatch of
power and outcome.
Visually speaking, Howard must be a genius, he's so
unappealing. I saw Kim Beazley at Lesley MCKay's
Bookshop in Double Bay getting something to read, he
looks relaxed, contained in himself(maybe it was
somebody else!). He's got a very interesting feel
about him, and quite a good suntan. Heard him later on
2GB give an excellent strong concise interview which
explained his presence in DB that day. He's my man
Howard's such a lonely sole. He is known pop around
the corner to the 'Establishment' Club in Macquarie
Street, get his smorgasboard lunch, and sits there
alone in silence eating.
Yerr, Howard is a really smart bastard. He got the
'ticker' thing to stick to Beazley very early on.
People in the Party believe it, mainly because they
have their own career fantasy to entertain. Truth and
pragmatism in politics like a man and his dog, linked
but intrinsically seperate. I would disagree that
Labor cannot develop policy that emcompasses the needs
of community the way the Liberals are idealogically
directed to, particularly a Labor Party directed by
the moderation you see in Western Australian leaders
who arrived at that devilish mode known as consensus
in 1984.
But from a literary angle consensus was dialogue!damn.
Perhaps more than I can say for filtered-coffee!
