Daniel: I thought when you started preaching a couple of days ago in
response to JK's statement, which contained not one single reference to
Christ or Christianity, that you were perhaps just naive. That would also be
consistent with your apparent assumption that his statement was offered in
the expectation that his views and positions would be tested and perhaps
reversed by persuasive counter-statements such as those you keep posting.
There's a long tradition on Poetryetc of respecting each other's views in
the sense of _accepting_ them and exercising a basic courtesy and
sensitivity toward them regardless of our own beliefs (religious or
political, e.g.). Your remarks about veganism, anarchism, and Christianity
have all crossed that traditional line, but those to do with
Christianity--which JK, to whose statement you are ostensibly responding,
has already told you is irrelevant--go much further and come close to
proselytizing.
With over 200 people on this list, you can assume that many are not
Christians and that most who are not will, like me, be more or less offended
by any such sectarianizing of unrelated topics. I hope you haven't joined
Poetryetc as a Christian rather than as a poet because, although you could
certainly be both, this isn't a Christian list--if you see the
difference(?), which is one of emphasis. The same would be true if you've
joined us as a fascist or a militant carnivore. Some of us are vegans, some
are not; some of us are anarchists, others are not. JK, whose strong
identifications with both of those schools of thought, has never tried to
convert list members to them, let alone restricted list membership to poets
who adhere to them, even though as list owner he could do so--unlike you or
anyone among the 200+ subscribers to Poetryetc.
Maybe you could introduce yourself and tell us something about your poetry.
Thanks--
Candice
