WHAT IS YOUR "TITLE"?
MS?! I have a BA, Dip A.T and MA.
WITH WHAT INSTITUTION(S), IF ANY, ARE YOU AFFILIATED?
ARE YOU AN ARTIST? IN WHAT MEDI(A) DO YOU WORK? FEEL FREE TO LIST URL'S OR
painting, installation, writing and digital media.
CURATORS, WHAT IS YOUR OFFICIAL JOB DESCRIPTION? WHAT DUTIES DO YOU
REGULARLY PERFORM OUTSIDE OF THIS JOB DESCRIPTION? WHAT ARE THE MOST
CHALLENGING ASPECTS OF YOUR WORK?
I also am participating on an informal basis with curating shows for a new
gallery in London called the "hatOn wall"
IF YOU ARE AFFILIATED WITH AN INSTITUTION, WITH WHOM MUST YOU COLLABORATE,
AND HOW, IN DOING YOUR JOB? (CONSERVATORS, PR/MARKETING PEOPLE,
DEVELOPMENT, DIRECTORS, ETC.)
CURATORS, HOW DO YOU THINK YOUR INTERACTION (QUALITY, QUANTITY, NATURE,
SCOPE, ETC.) WITH ARTISTS DIFFERS FROM THAT OF CURATORS IN OTHER FIELDS?
ARTISTS, HOW DO YOU THINK YOUR INTERACTION (QUALITY, QUANTITY, NATURE,
SCOPE, ETC.) WITH CURATORS DIFFERS FROM THAT OF ARTISTS IN OTHER FIELDS?
CAN YOU RELATE THIS TO COMMISSIONING AND ACCESSION PROCESSES?
Haven't had a huge amount of experience but i would like to think that I
have moved away from that disempowered position of merely, anonymously
sending in my slides and hoping that someone will like them...
COMPARE AND CONTRAST CURATING FOR AN INSTITUTION VS CURATING INDEPENDENTLY.
INDEPENDENT CURATORS, HOW MANY SHOWS/ PROJECTS DO YOU TYPICALLY ORGANIZE IN
A TWO-YEAR PERIOD? PLEASE GIVE SOME EXAMPLES OF SHOWS AND/OR SHARE
ANECDOTES ABOUT CHALLENGES.
ARTISTS WHO ARE CURATORS, HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR DUAL ROLE? DO YOU SEE
IT AS A DUAL ROLE/BALANCING ACT? A NECESSITY? WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES
AND/OR REWARDS OF BEING BOTH?
I am primarily an artist, but enjoy the involvement with others, creating
"climates" of work, gathering together stuff and creating group feeling - I
like the power involved in creating a milieu. Isolation has always been the
kiss of death for my artistic output.
WHAT PROJECTS, RESOURCES, OR PUBLICATIONS HAVE YOU FOUND VALUABLE OR
EXEMPLARY OF/IN YOUR CONCERNS? PLEASE SHARE URL'S AND CITATIONS.
CARE TO COMMENT ON YOUR TAKE ON THE "MEDIA ARTS" VS. "NEW MEDIA"
hmmm, I'm new to the list so haven't read much about it. All I can think is
that digital media isn't exactly new anymore, but then, "media" could mean
