except that mainstream art discourse has never really been comfortable with
discussing art within a broader social/cultural context, and this is why
practises that share a commitment (or practical neccessity) to engage with
contexts outside of art itself (such as live art or pucblic art) are
marginalised.
i think the best writing about media art within its own channels (ie
rhizome, nettime) *has* located the work within these societal milieus. its
just that coverage in places like artforum, wall st journal, and new york
time are never likely to be as considerate. thats why lev's work is
interesting, as he's trying to provide the formal critical vocabulary that
these writers need.
