A New Instrument for Studying the Chemical and
Physical Properties of Single Atmospheric Aerosol
Particles
Supported by the EPSRC Analytical Techniques in
Atmospheric Chemistry (ATAC) Programme
===========================================
Applications are invited for a Post-Doctoral Research
Fellowship and a Graduate Studentship at the University
of Birmingham, U.K., to work under the supervision of
Dr. Jonathan Reid and Dr. Jacob Baker. The research
will aim to develop a new analytical instrument for
studying the chemical and physical properties of
atmospheric aerosol particles. Based on an optical
detection technique, the instrument will involve the
coupling of an aerodynamic lens system with a high
power tunable laser. Funding for the research has been
granted by the EPSRC within the Analytical Techniques
in Atmospheric Chemistry programme.
Postdoctoral applicants should have a background in
optical and laser techniques, with a PhD in a related field
of either Chemistry or Physics. The position is available
for up to 3 years. Applicants for the studentship should
have a degree in Chemistry or Physics. Both positions
are available from September 2001.
Further details can be obtained by informal enquiry to
Dr. Jonathan Reid ([log in to unmask]) and additional
information on the area of research can be found at:
http://www.che.bham.ac.uk/jpreid
Applications should be made to Dr. Jonathan Reid with
a CV and two accompanying letters of recommendation.
