Bugle Horn Colliery was situated about a mile north
of Hindley Green, near Wigan.
It was sunk by Edward Johnson, and first appears in the
List of Mines in 1872. I have it as taken over by the
United Co-operative Coal Mining Society Ltd. in 1875,
According to a note in the "Bolton Chronicle" for
29.3.1879 it was sold on 22.3.1879 as a going concern
for £2000. It was then operated by Unsworth and Cowburn
and seems to have changed its name about this time to
Brookside. It is noted as abandoned in March 1930.
I hope this is of some help.

Grateful to anybody who can tell me anything about Bugle Horn Colliery. All
I have is that it was purchased by CWS in April 1877 and sold in March
1882. I don't even know where it was (though given need to serve London I'd
guess NE, as was Shilbottle which, after a gap, replaced it).
