Hi Daniel,
no doubt you will get more specific answers to many of your questions from
Mike Gill who recently wrote a book on the Swaledale mines when he reads
your posting. You may find the section on my website which deals with the
Swaledale and Arkengarthdale area useful. I can confirm though that most if
not all of the families that you mentioned are still represented in the area
and there have been several recent studies of the mining history, the role
of farming and mining, and the archaeology of the area, there is also a book
on the miners who migrated to the upper Mississippi area by David Morris.
The Yorkshire Vernacular Buildings Group have been recording the buildings
of upper Swaledale and I myself have just started a PHd study of the
archaeology of lead mining landscapes which will be examining the Swaledale
area as one of my case studies.
So yes there is probably a great deal of information available.
