FRENCH & BELGIAN MINING BOOKS

On my recent visits to Belgium and France I met the Author & Photographer
Pierre-Christian Guiollard who has produced a superb range of Mining Books
on French and Belgian Mines. Pierre - Christian is a great character and has
produced the following books, all of which are extremely produced with
superb photography and drawings. Unfortunately for English speakers like
myself they are all in French, this however should not deter Mining
enthusiasts - most of the technical words are similar and with a little
effort, a dictionary and using the excellent photos and plans you can soon
understand these books. I would consider them to be collector's items and
well worth adding to your collection.

I have odd copies of these books in stock otherwise there will be a delay in
ordering prices include postage

? Les Chevalements, Des Houilleres Francaises, Pierre-Christian Guiollard,
HB A4 268pp the book provides details of some 60mines in France and as the
title refers provides superb black and white photographs of the headgears
and mine buildings. Pierre uses several photographs, drawings, postcards
plans and sections with lots of supportive text to explain how the mines how
systems worked and details of the mines themselves £35.00

? Belles- Fleurs De Belgique, Pierre-Christian Guiollard, PB A4, 47pp. 49 BW
photos of mine head gears in Belgium. Mining ceased in Belgium in 1982 and
fortunately the author managed to capture images of these sites. Quite a
few still exist - the castle like engine house at Cheratte is the most
unique. This book prompted my first visit to Belgium this year. I would
recommend the book and a visit to anybody. £8.50

? La Mine D'or et D'Antimoine De La Lucette, Pierre-Christian Guiollard. PB
A4 166pp. High quality production includes lots of Colour and BW photos
this is well researched book providing a full history of these gold and
antimony mines up to the present day £18.00

? Mineurs d'Or en Limousin, Pierre-Christian Guiollard. PB quarto 66pp.
High quality colour photos mainly showing underground working methods in
this working Gold Mine £13.00

? Lumieres Dans La Mine, Marcel Humbert-Labeaumaz. PB 190pp160x240mm. BW
photos and illustrations describing the history and development of Marsaut
and his mining lamps. This is essential reading if you are interested in
Mining Lamps £18.00

? Les "Raves" ou L' Histoire Du Crezieu Stephanois, Michel Bonnot & Marcel
Humbert-Labeaumaz. PB 208pp 160x240mm. 240 illustrations and photos
describing the developments of mining lamps. Includes details of oil,
acetylene and flame safety lamps. Yet another collectable one! £18.00

? St-Marie aux Mines Les Mines du reve, Pierre Fluck. HB 205pp 175 x250mm.
This book is superb - it's a shame there is not an English version as it
would be a best seller. This area in the Vosges Mountains in the Alsace
Lorraine region of France is home to 14th Century Mining remains and
workings. The mines are of prime archaeological importance. Preserved
within the mountains are vast labyrinths of hand picked workings including
miles of 8ft tall coffin levels. The book describes in details working
methods, production and research details. This is backed up with Colour
photos of underground and surface preservation. £20.00
