As Keith Ramsey had already pointed out, we do hold an number of interesting
oral history interviews with women in the South Wales Coalfield Collection
at University of Wales Swansea. As Keith rightly says, the details of the
interviews can be found in our web catalogue at http://www.swan.ac.uk/swcc/
You might also be interested to know that we hold a range of other primary
and secondary source materials relating to women in South Wales, including
videos, books and pamphlets. These might be useful for background research?
Please contact me for details.
I hope this is helpful.
Best wishes

Subject: Women in mining communities
Hello
First of all, please let me apologise in advance if anyone feels this is an
inappropriate use of the list. I am producing a BBC Radio 4 documentary
about the role of women in UK mining communities over the course of the
20th century. The programme begins with the Lancashire Pit-Brow Lasses and
broadens out to look at the role of women in mining communities as mothers,
wives and sisters of miners - how they view the job of the miner, how they
respond in times of disaster or strike etc. I would be very grateful if
anyone could point me in the direction of oral history archives of women
talking about their lives in mining communities throughout the UK. Many
thanks
Libby Cross, Producer, BBC Entertainment & Features, Manchester.
