A FINISHING SCHOOL FOR SYSTEMATIC REVIEWS
skills for meta-analysis, interpretation
and reporting of systematic reviews
30th January to 1st February 2002

The Oxford Systematic Review Development Programme is running a course
on 30th January to 1st February 2002 in Oxford, developed in collaboration
with the UK Cochrane Centre. The course will provide training in the last
stages of the systematic review process, including methods of meta-
analysis. It aims to equip participants with the knowledge and skills to
be able to:
plan and carry out a basic meta-analysis
be aware of the appropriate use of methods for more complex analysis
be aware of pitfalls in meta-analysis
interpret the results of a meta-analysis
communicate the results and interpretation of an analysis accurately
*** Who should apply? ***
The course is most suited to researchers who are undertaking, or planning
to undertake a systematic review and require training in the last stages of
the review process related to handling, analysing, and interpreting data.
The main focus of the course will be on studies of effectiveness, and the
course will be ideal for researchers preparing reviews for the Cochrane
Library. However, consideration will be given during the course to reviews
answering other forms of research question.
*** Cost ***
The course fee is £325 for non-profit organisations and £650 for profit
organisations. This includes all materials and lunches, but no
accommodation.
