It's official!
As of Thursday 7th June 2001 the Museums Computer Group has a constitution
and an elected Committee. Election of the acting Committee was unopposed at
a well attended meeting of the Museums Computer Group at the National
Gallery in London. Two ordinary Committee posts were also filled. The seven
strong Committee plans to meet in early August to discuss the introduction
of a membership subscription. This move was prompted by the results of a
questionnaire last year in which the majority of members indicated that they
would not be opposed to the introduction of a membership fee.
Monies raised from the subscription will be used to lessen the burden of
Newsletter production and other costs, currently met by meeting hosts. In
this way the Committee hopes to be able to hold more meetings outside London
and to enable smaller museums play host to the MCG.
Also on the agenda is to raise the profile of the Group. In a climate of
increasing demand on computer literate museum staff it is felt that the MCG
has much to offer in terms of encouragement and experience - not only for
those who work in the traditional museum computer disciplines of
documentation and gallery multimedia but also those whose work involves them
in, for example, websites, e-commerce and mobile communications.
The Committee members are:
Chair, Sue Gordon
Secretary/treasurer, Stuart Mann
Newsletter editor, Sue Julian-Ottie
Webmaster, Ian Morrison
Archivist, Bill Pettitt
Ordinary member, Debbie Richards
Ordinary member, Alex Bromley
