ASSOCIATION OF UK MEDIA LIBRARIANS
new media, new markets; our emerging role
Annual Conference
Holiday Inn, Lime Street
Liverpool
1-3 March 2002
Few professionals can sit back and take for granted their
position in today's business world. Librarians are no different
and many have recognised the need to adapt to changes in
technology and in the legal environment.
With members drawn from all sectors of the media and all parts of
the UK as well as abroad, the annual conference of the
Association of UK Media Librarians' is always lively and
stimulating with opportunities for formal and informal
exchange of ideas, opinion and experience.
The programme includes practical workshops, lecture and panel
discussions designed to help information professionals adapt and
survive. Key information vendors will also be demonstrating their
products. This year's topics include
~ the impact of digitisation on the sale and delivery of
photographs.
~ Intellectual Property: what is it and what are the
implications for media libraries?
~ Information professionals and copyright.
~ Panel discussions on the developments in online
information.
~ Practical workshops on time management, self and staff
management, motivation.
~ How to find free business information on the Internet.
~ Tips for success in the information world. How to find
free business
~ On the social side there is a party at the Beatles Story Museum,
a drinks reception and tour of St George's Hall, a chance to take
a ferry across the Mersey and the gala Conference Dinner on
Saturday evening.
According to AUKML chairman Ian Watson the programme will appeal
to many people working in the information business, not
necessarily in the media. 'AUKML members are gregarious and
sociable, keen to find out how things work not just in the media
but in other sectors too. It's a packed weekend full of
opportunities to make new and valuable professional contacts.
Probably the best value for money in the information world
calendar.'
