Workshops
Archives preservation is essentially a set of practical measures that the
archives manager can institute as policy and procedure within the repository
to maximise the longevity of the records in their care. These workshops have
been designed to give participants the opportunity to learn about and try
out some of these practical techniques. They cover paper documents, handling
and packing and how to work out a policy and strategy for preservation that
will work in your own working environment given perhaps very limited
resources. You will choose your workshops at the beginning of the day.
Whilst we will try to accommodate your choices we cannot guarantee that you
will get both of them.
Handling, packing and preventative measures
A demonstration with examples of how to maximise the preservation of
documents by good practice in handling and packing.
Simple document cleaning and repair
This session will enable participants to observe and try out simple
techniques for cleaning and repairing documents.
Developing a conservation strategy/policy
This is a workshop session that will give participants the opportunity to
begin to develop their own ideas for a conservation strategy and/or policy
for their repository.
“… the day was both enjoyable and informative … came away feeling that we
had gained some worthwhile knowledge and interesting insights into the area
of conservation work …” (Former Preservation Day participant)
