Here at Glasgow University we will only search for locations for any item
which BL is unable to supply, they are our first choice. There seems to me
little point by-passing BL when they are much quicker to supply than most
other institutions.
If and when they report that they are unable to supply, we decide at that
stage to search for locations or pass back for them to deal with it.
I do agree with Thelma however that it seems obstructive to insist that all
libraries approach BL first. As there is no way of knowing the history of a
request received electronically, what proof can be produced? How can this
policy be enforced?

Thelma and ILL colleagues,
this may well be a trend but as Nottingham is one of the COPAC
Libraries whose catalogues can be searched without incurring the BL
search fee, they may be noticing an increase in direct applications.
We ourselves have noticed a definite drop in requests to us as our
catalogue is not so readily available.
Are other COPAC or clumped libraries experiencing increases of direct
requests?
