Hi Judith
I may have solved your problem! Our archivist is in today so I ran your
email passed her. We have a Victoria History run but have stopped buying it
now and it does not have a volume 1 for Gloucester. According to her the
Institute of Historical Research in London organises the collection and they
were based in London University, Senate House, Mallot Street London.
However the Couty Records Offices for each County is responsible for their
own area and have each approached the task in different ways. The first
few volumes are overviews then the next are on specific parts of the
county, so she reckons that volume 1 has not been produced yet - Gloucester
seem to have concentrated on the specific areas first, not necessarily in
order. She used to work up there, a Dr Herbert was in charge of the County
Records office. She thinks that these are now being produced in
collaboration with Gloucester County Council and the Higher Education
Authorities but the County Records Office in Gloucestershire should know
who.
Hope this helps

**Dear Colleagues,
** as a last ditch attempt to trace a copy
**(reference would
**do) I'm writing to the list to ask if anyone has a copy of:
**
**Volume 1
**Victoria History of the County of Gloucester
**
**I have found several libraries that hold volume 2 onwards, but no
**libraries that hold volume 1.
**
**I would be grateful if anyone knows of a copy.
**
** Yours,
