With regard to Ian and John's earlier comments about linking to the
publisher site where possible:
I agree with John, up to a point. I try to balance the desirability of
linking to the publisher's site against the number of different interfaces
we end up presenting to the end user.
For example, in our case, Aggregator A would score over Publisher A and
Aggregator B (where a title was available on all three) if we already had a
larger number of titles on the Aggregator A service. If it were a choice
between publisher and aggregator, it would again depend on where we linked
to existing titles by that publisher.
I also tend to take into account performance issues; there is one
'aggregator' I would not use unless there was no other way because the
interface and performance is so poor.
This means that I am not including possible content differences in this
equation. I'm not sure what the answer to this one is. I certainly haven't
got the time to cross-check content, and I don't suppose anyone else has
either.....
Regards,
Phillip

We provide links to ScienceDirect for Elsevier titles. As a general rule I
always try to provide links direct to the publisher site where available
and avoid aggregator services.
