Dear List,
I'm off to take advantage of being able to live and work in the U.K. and I'm
looking for work and GIS communities.
In my own time I'm on the Mapping Sciences Institute of Australia committee
- Northern Territory Division, which involved organising promotions and
technical sessions. I also attend our local GIS user group and was wondering
what sorts groups or organisations are active in London?
If anyone knows of any work, permanent or contract I'm skilled in GIS for
mining and exploration requirements (6yrs) plus have done some environmental
work (water monitoring, fire burn off zoning & weeds management).
I use MapInfo and various plug-ins on a daily basis (V4-6), supported by the
Microsoft suite of products as required, in particular Access and
PowerPoint. I am also proficient with Arcview (have also completed ESRI's
'Advanced Arcview 3.2' training), Microstation (V5 - J), CorelDraw (V3-8)
and have completed introductory training in Visual Basic 6. My work has
required knowledge of a range of software and operating systems (NT in
particular) and required little or no supervision; on the contrary I am
required to supervise various contractors.
I assist our systems administrator, by maintaining the server, doing backups
etc when she's away, set up PCs, install software and provide technical
support and training. I have extensive training in OH&S, including Senior
First Aid, Fire Warden, Hazard Identification and managing people in work
place emergencies.
On the academic front I have a BSc in GIS and a Diploma of Applied Science
Computer Mapping (Cartography). I would be happy provide a CV and further
details.
I would be delighted to use my skills in any capacity, I would be thrilled
to be able pursue my interests in database design (4ys various Access
experience), MapBasic and Visual Basic (only 3 months experience but
learning!). I plan to attend programming night classes (this girl knows how
to have fun) once settled. I do have somewhere to live in West London so I
would like to work in the city but would definitely consider opportunities
in other districts.
I would welcome the opportunity for an interview after my arrival in London
on the 14th July, and can be contacted by email [log in to unmask]
(before 21st June) or [log in to unmask] (after 21st June).
Yours sincerely
Amanda Horner
