Many thanks to all of you who came forward with advice regarding the purchase of polarizing microscopes for students. This helped a lot to prepare a kind of shortlist of which microscopes have good quality optics and which are most likely to survive for the next twenty years or so.
If some of you have still more to say about this, be assured that any comment is of value to us, as we are still in the asessment stage.
What needs to be mentioned perhaps is that quite a few people have not a very high opinion of the microscopes they bought (to say it politely), which can be a serious issue if you consider the large amount of money invested in these items. Don't trust half of what the company reps tell you.
Well, the next obvious question is where can we get more money? Any suggestions will be treated with the strictest confidence, of course.
