I help curate some of the paleobotanical collection at Harvard, under
Andrew Knoll. I was asked by the Natural History Museum here for
information on James Lomax. Mr. Lomax was a paleobotanist and
paleobotanical preparator working in Bolton and in Manchester in the
late 1800s and the early 1900s. The Museum is preparing an exhibit
which will include thin sections of Coal Measure plants prepared by
him; Harvard has a number of his slides. I found some biographical
information for Mr. Lomax, but no photograph.
Does your museum have a photo of Mr. Lomax? Might you know of any one
who does?
