ASIAN RESEARCH CENTRE FOR MIGRATION, CHULALONGKORN
UNIVERSITY
The Refugee Studies Centre at Queen Elizabeth House,
University of Oxford, in collaboration with the Asian
Research Centre for Migration, Chulalongkorn University, is
pleased to announce a 10-day residential Southeast
Asia Regional School in Forced Migration from 3 - 13
December 2001.
The course is intended for those who wish to analyse,
understand and improve their practical knowledge of
forced migration, with particular reference to the
Southeast Asia region.
Participants are expected to include:
upper and middle managers of NGOs and IGOs
and faith based organisations involved in humanitarian
work; government officials; researchers involved with
assistance and policy making for forced migrants
Through lectures, group work, simulations, case
studies, debates, and discussion, participants examine
realities faced by refugees as well as contemporary
responses to displacement at institutional and ground
levels.
Over 10 working days, modules will address:
* the globalisation of forced migration;
* legal-institutional and social developmental
models that describe forced migration;
* asylum policy, international law and human
rights;
* the development of programmes that address
the psychosocial needs of forced migrants;
* the challenges involved in negotiating
institutional responses to refugee crises - East Timor
* the application of learning in practice
Skills in presentation making, teamwork and organisational
networking will also be developed.
Evening activities will include films on refugee
experiences, seminars, participant presentations,
and social events.
The course will be run by a full-time team from the RSC and
ARCM. Guest speakers from the region will contribute
towards the airing of wide and varied perspectives on
aspects of forced migration.
Venue: Sasa International House and Vidhaya Nivest,
Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok.
Sasa International House's central location on the peaceful
campus of Chulalongkorn University is within walking
distance of Bangkok's Central Business District in the area
of Sian Square. All rooms at Sasa are designed and
furnished to the highest international standards.
Course fee: 1950USD - covers all tuition, course
materials, 10 days' full board accommodation and social
activities. A certificate of completion is awarded at the
end of the course.
