Dear All,
I have been 'tasked' to set up an HND in Applied Social Science (as in the 'New university keep your job? .....then find a new market ' sense of the term).
Though reluctant at first, I am feeling happier about it, especially as it has given me the chance to combine my favourite sociology and social psychology into a 'social studies' HNC/HND which we are proposing to call
'People, Work and Social Change'. It will centre on personal development and change over the life course, with opportunities to look at loss and identity transformation in the context of a rapidly changing late/post modern culture. The emphasis on real world experience also offers plenty of grounded data for students to reflect upon and analyse.
However, a major problem is finding someone with knowledge of Higher National qualifications with a Social Studies background as our external adviser.
So, I am writing to ask:
1) Do you have such experience, or
2) Do you know of anyone who might have such experience if you don't, or
3) Do you know of any institutions that might run HNDs loosely in the area of social studies?
The job is not too onerous - requiring us (i.e. me and a few members of the development team) to visit the said adviser who will have read and commented on the draft proposals.
Any suggestions?
Gordon.
