I'm told it is industry standard when applying to transfer pensions between
schemes for the schemes to share the data direct - something to do with
differences in calculating transfer values/fund worth depending on scheme
type and assessing eligibility for transfer. It is always possible for the
transfer request to be declined by either scheme.
At present this firm's transfer enquiry form requests authority for the firm
scheme (external) to investigate the suitability on behalf of the employee
wishing to make the transfer. The wording clearly states that the employee
is giving permission for the firm scheme to make the enquiries and the
employee must also sign the form. There are a number of identifiers on the
form in order to reduce the risk of erroneous disclosure. Is this
sufficient to meet the test of consent? Has anyone got any other practices
which they would be willing to share?
