No objections to the discussion of politics here. I've found this list
very useful and provocative in the last week.
A recent Guardian online "world dispatch" article featured an American
columnist who claimed that to attempt to explain was to start to
excuse.
I couldn't disagree more. If we don't attempt to explain and don't
listen
to other views, regardless of whether or not we agree, then I think we
fail as scholars and human beings.
