The City of York
================
York is a thriving modern city, but you'll find constant reminders of
its Roman, Viking and Medieval past. An ideal base for visiting the
nearby National Parks and heritage coastline, York is ideal for a
short break at any time of the year. York is the best preserved
medieval city in the United Kingdom, surrounded by ancient stone walls
and four magnificent 'bars' which form the gateways to the city. York
Minster is the largest gothic cathedral in Northern Europe and a must
for all visitors to York. The Jorvik Viking Centre breathes fresh life
into York's Viking past in a brand new interpretation of 10th century
Yorvik.
Accommodation is available at the university campus,a 200-acre
landscaped park, well-known for its idyllic lake and wildfowl. The
convention banquet will be held at King's Manor, one of York's most
attractive and unusual sites. Originally the Abbot's House of St
Mary's Abbey, the King's Manor served the Tudors and Stuarts as a seat
of government, becoming a school and residences in the 18th century.
