Dear Colleagues,
As the submission date of MIW'2001 workshop is approaching, you might be
glad to hear that we will have the opportunity to have a selected number of
MIW'2001 accepted papers for possible inclusion in "Knowledge and
Information Systems: An International Journal" by Springer-Verlag. Details

2nd International Workshop on Management of Information on the Web
(http://www.cs.mdx.ac.uk/staffpages/wwu/MIW'2001/DEXA'2001.html)
in conjunction with the Int'l Conference on Database and Expert Systems
Application (DEXA'2001) in Munich, Germany 3-7 September 2001.
THEME
Following a successful MIW'2000 workshop held in Greenwich University,
London in September, this time we will continue to explore the issue of Web
information management from various perspectives with an emphasis on Data
and Text Mining on the Web. The Web, as effectively the largest
heterogeneous data warehouse in the world, accommodates a huge amount of
information in various nature which presents an exciting challenge to
everyone. How to manage, retrieve, or even discover previously unknown
useful information from the Web have been the research interests among
researchers and practitioners from different disciplines.
The aim of MIW'2001 is to clarify the key tasks involved in the management
of information on the Web with a special focus on data and text mining. We
will try to answer questions such as: Is Web data mining any different from
traditional data mining? Is text mining simply a combination of natural
language processing and data mining? What are the differences between text
mining, natural language processing, and information retrieval? What are the
relationships among data mining, text mining and web mining? What are the
promising text mining technologies? What are the successful (as well as
unsuccessful) applications?
The relevant topics may include the following (but not limited to):
Data mining and knowledge discovery on the Web;
Text mining on the Web;
Web Information retrieval and extraction;
Web Document categorisation;
Data visualisation;
Database techniques for the Web;
Data warehousing on the Web;
High performance computing technology for very large databases;
Distributed database management techniques;
Digital library techniques.
IMPORTANT DATE
Submission deadline: 28 February 2001
