As end user applications and integration requirements become more demanding,
application designers are coming under increasing pressure to provide "live
data". The information presented to the users, or made available to other
systems, must be continually updated in order to provide up to date details
of the current state of the business in a particular area.
Wherever we look, we can see examples of the need for such live data. In the
financial world, live investment portfolio information in needed to show
users the changing value of their portfolios as the underlying stock prices
change; just-in-time suppliers need to monitor and react to changing stock
levels; on-line auctions need to keep the bidders informed of competing
bids.
This session will discuss issues involved in solving this problem and
present a possible solution.
Tim Hoverd is one of the founders of Isocra, which was formed in June 1998.
He started life as an electronics engineer, working originally on telephony
systems. Over the years he migrated to writing software and now specialises
in object oriented software following a formative experience with Smalltalk
in 1980.
With Isocra Tim is a principal consultant, trainer and has made significant
contributions to products such as Enterprise Inspector.
Tim remains particularly interested in all aspects of object oriented
software, especially of the distributed variety. He is also especially
interested in issues concerned with language (of the computer variety)
translation. This has included the development of several parsers, structure
editors and language-oriented generators over the years.
