PhD Studentship
A studentship is available at the University of Sheffield for study
leading to the degree of PhD in Statistics. The student would work on
a project entitled "Uncertainty in Financial Models of Large and
Complex Government Projects", in collaboration with the National Audit
Office (NAO). The NAO is charged with auditing the accounts of
government departments and agencies, and reviewing the economy,
efficiency and effectiveness of how they use their resources. This
project therefore provides an opportunity for the student to become
involved in work of national significance.
The project will employ advanced Bayesian statistical methods, and so
also provides an opportunity for the student to gain training and
experience in one of the most exciting areas of current statistical
research.
Financial support from the NAO means that a substantially higher
grant will be available to the student than the usual research
council grant.
Further information about the studentship may be obtained from Dr
David Laws ([log in to unmask], telephone 0114 222 3720) or
Professor Tony O'Hagan ([log in to unmask], telephone 0114 222
3773).
