The illumination provided by rationality is the only type allowed in medicine thanks to academe. I suppose we are taught to fear a return to the "dark ages," if anything non-rational is included.
Rational non-linearity (complexity) uses the same source of illumination, but maybe it's less bright.
Can I recommend "Metaphors we Live By," (Lakoff and Johnson 1980)as an introduction to the deeply embedded ways of thinking we have. E.G. up is good, down is bad;
argument is war, knowledge is light, ignorance is dark etc.
