And "hear hear" to that.
But we all make blinds in order to write, surely? Writing is so often a
dance of simultaneous awareness and self deception, conscious illusions.
Which are so often expressed in contradictions. One can be conscious and
curious and still have a necessary blindness (the gaze of Orpheus, etc).
I think, although I see also where you're coming from about unquestioned
intentions, that Michael has a point about a theory-driven poem: which so
often are so very dull. Conscious intention is very little of a poem.
Is that Romantic? or Surrealist? Frost, the most pragmatic of poets,
who seems most conscious of the desired effects and of what "type" of
poem he was writing, nevertheless would not second guess that process and
scorned those who "planned" their work.
