The Eighteenth-Century Novel
The William Collins Society is pleased to announce its second conference
planned to take place from 16th to 19th September 2002 in Chester, UK.
The
conference topic will be the eighteenth-century novel. It is hoped that
a
whole variety of critical perspectives will be presented to re-evaluate
the
novel of the eighteenth century. The organizer takes a keen interest in
those novels that were published in the 1750s, 60s and 70s. Whilst
feminist
and gender critics have focussed on the representation of
femininity in the novel, on notions of womanhood in the eighteenth
century
as well as on female authorial self-representation, recent years have
shown
a greater interest in a non-canonical male voice. Furthermore, the
organizer
is encouraging proposals on the gothic novel as well as on the early
eighteenth-century novella.
Papers of 25-30 minutes are invited for presentation. The proceedings of
the conference will be published. Those interested in offering a paper
should send a proposal to the organizer at [log in to unmask] or send it
via snail-mail to Sandro Jung, 6 Abbey Green, Chester CH1 2JH, UK. The
deadline for proposals is 1 June 2002.
