Union and Cultural Identities in Eighteenth-Century Scotland
In this, ECSSS's first-ever Edinburgh conference, the theme of union
has been chosen to
reflect the changing perspectives on eighteenth-century Scotland
since the advent fo
the modern Scottish Parliament in 1999. Paper proposals will be
particularly welcome on
the following themes: Transatlantic Exchanges; The Production of
Culture; The Scottish
Enlightenment and History; Scotland and Ireland; and The Book and the
Book Trade.
Papers will be 20-25 minutes long.
The conference will feature an excursion to Paxton House in
Berwickshire, with talks on
its fine library and picture gallery; an evening of Burns songs with
violin and cello
accompaniment at St. Cecilia's Hall in the Edinburgh Cowgate; and an
exhibit at
Edinburgh University Library.
