In response to Dick Sargent's posting on the difficulties of moderating list
content, would a suitable solution be to amend the Acceptable Use Policy to
include that any job adverts that appear must comply with the Society's stated
policy on minimum salary. As far as I am aware the AUP can be decided by the
list owners provided it does not contravene that of the server on which it is
hosted. Indeed the list owners took action to moderate the list content
after the infamous "late arrivals at the archivists ball" incident when they
believed that the AUP had been breached. This would then provide a suitable
policy base so that such postings could be removed. The person posting them
could either be warned or removed from the list. Given the relatively low
traffic on archives-nra this would not seem to increase the workload
substantially, although maybe someone could volunteer to monitor job adverts
and inform the list owners if any contravene the AUP.
It might also help if the list owners themselves did not post such adverts on
behalf of advertisers as happened in June.
