LIBRARIES AND HERITAGE DEPARTMENT
Suffolk Record Office
Project Assistants, Access to Archives (A2A) - (£12,618 - £19014, pro rata)
1 October - 23 November 2001 (37 hours a week)
Access to Archives is a national project whose aim is to convert all archive
catalogues in English Record Offices into electronic format and to mount
them on the Internet, thereby contributing to an ultimate national
electronic catalogue. A2A is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund. The
Suffolk Record Office acts as the lead authority for the Eastern region's
A2A project.
The first stage of the project involves analysing and marking-up approx
20,000 pages of catalogues relating to the development of the urban and
rural landscape in the East of England. For this we need a team of five
enthusiastic and committed people with an interest in History and the
ability to work accurately to tight deadlines. If you fit the description,
and have experience of working in a Record Office and/or library and using
archive catalogues, we would like to hear from you.
People with disabilities and people from minority ethnic groups are
under-represented on our workforce. Applications from suitably experienced
people from these groups are particularly welcomed. The posts will be
split between the Bury St Edmunds and Ipswich branches of the Record Office.
Application forms and further details are available from the Suffolk Record
Office, 77 Raingate St, Bury St Edmunds IP33 2AR, Tel (01284) 352352,
Fax (01284) 352355, e-mail [log in to unmask]
Closing date for applications: 24 August 2001
