Dear List Members:
To accept Dr. David Scott’s invitation offering free testing, I am
suggesting to potential lenders of specimens that three copper axes of
larger than average size be selected. I believe you all will agree that such
artifacts should have a good Hopewell provenience. I’m sure museum staff
members are experienced about the costs and logistics of shipping and
insuring artifacts.
I am seeking suggestions of museum directors to query about participation in
this project.
I’m also seeking donors to pay the costs of shipping the artifacts to and
from the testing site. I will assist interested parties any way I can to
obtain the test results. I have prepared a formal proposal covering this
testing project and will send this to suggested lending institutions. Also,
I am mailing such a proposal to Martha Otto, curator of archaeology of The
Ohio Historical Society Museum in here Columbus.
