We have some evidence (lead isotope ratios), that the exploitation of lead
in the Black Forest started during the early medieval period at the
beginning of the 7th cent (at the latest). Lead with matching isotope
ratios were found in yellow lead glass beads of the Merovingian
period along the Rhine River (Switzerland - Netherlands). The work is
published online, but in German (http://elib.tu-darmstadt.de/diss/000065/).
The results concerning the lead isotope ratios are starting on page 137.

Martin Heck
