In response to item f), i.e. that SAS have a similar certification. This, according to SAS UK, is currently under review, as is their policy of licensing the software to consultants at all. They would appear to prefer it if each of your clients licenses the software. Go figure!

I have to say that having looked at the SPSS certification site and read
the correspondence concerning this matter....
a) is it just me or does SCert sound (phonetically and otherwise)
completely different from CStat?
b) As someone who doesn't live in the UK.... I never heard of CStat before
yesterday...is it globally applicable?
c) It looks like the SCert practice exams papers don't really try to assess
statistical knowledge. They just require the user to demonstrate a basic
proficiency in using SPSS. Whether that be (at the lower level - SCert
Essential Skills) creating a chart or finding out what the median age value
is of certain people in a certain area or (at the higher level - SCert
Advanced Skills) of dealing with date fields, duplicate cases or awkward
chart types or tables.
d)A lot of people in the wider community (including myself) will probably
find it useful when trying to recruit individuals who claim to have a half
decent knowledge of SPSS.
e) It isn't a course ...it's a test that you take. In fact the site says
there aren't any courses officially linked to it.
f) Haven't SAS done the same thing? Except they call it SCP (SAS Certified
Professional)
g) If you looked at the actual web site you would've found all this out
anyhow...:)
