A while ago, I suggested that those who wanted to could make information (for example, slides for a talk) additional to their email available on request. I received a number of enthusiastic responses, including one from the Black Sea, who like me, would have liked to know more about some seminars, etc, that he could not get to. There was also, however, a flurry of concerns that this might lead to attachments being sent, with concomitant virus issues.
I've just come across an email on another mailing list that suggests how this might be done most conveniently and safely, for those who might wish to. I'll quote just the relevant section:
"More constructively, may I remind list users that JISCMAIL (& MAILBASE before) offers the capacity to store files as well as deliver and archive messages. Something which is considered relevant to a list and valuable in the longer term could be stored and accessed via www.jiscmail.ac.uk, rather than relying on users reading the archive to find individual web addresses."
I haven't looked into this, but it seems that we have the technology. I'm sending this for those who do not know that this is the case (most people I suspect) who might wish to make use of it.
Best wishes,
