I support this proposal which Roger Clark has raised a number of times with
the DfES. At Cambridge all our BA students have the same term dates and there
is considerable flexibility to move between various courses. We would like to
simply record them as a BA student thereby removing the need to supply lots of
term dates and transfers between the various courses.

I support the proposals. A related area on which we waste a lot of time is
notifying LEAs of internal transfers. For instance, when a student
transfers from a BA History and Politics to a BA History, we have to fill in
a long form. Why? I can understand it if the length of the degree schemes is
different--3 year as opposed to 4 year for example--but otherwise what
difference does it make? If LEAs really want this info, perhaps we could
just send a termly printout with a column for names, one for old schemes,
and one for new schemes. Any chance this might work?

Roger Clark would normally circulate the attached to members of this list on
behalf of the HEI Consultative Group.
However, I am presuming that Roger is away from the university as this has
not been circulated to date.
In Roger's absence could you let me have any comments to feed back to the
DfES on the attached proposals
Many thanks

Subject: Simplification of transfer procedures
Dear All
You have told us that you find the current process for transfers both
bureaucratic and time-consuming. Therefore we have been looking at ways in
which the current procedures could be simplified in a way that would reduce
the administration involved but still retain the good points of the current
system. The attached paper contains our proposals for how this might be
achieved and seeks your views on the practicality of these proposals and how
you would envisage them working.
Depending on the feedback I receive, I am hoping to put these proposals to
Ministers, with the aim that the new arrangements take effect from the start
of the 2002/03 academic year. I would be grateful if you could let me have
your comments by close of play Tuesday 11 September.
I would like to thank you in advance for your consideration of these
proposals.
