Andrea,
Whilst agreeing that the rainforests now face an even greater threat, given
the substantial growth in demand for "Confirmation of status letters", I also
feel that Data Protection requirements may constrain any possibility of
introducing charges, although "administrative charges" remains rather a grey
area.
Here at North London we are aware of the apparent need for letters covering a
fast-expanding number of circumstances. These may include, for example:
For my landlord
My parent's tax (usually from European students)
To confirm how much my fees are
To confirm that I've paid my fees
For my LEA
For my Student Loan
To confirm I have progressed
For the Bank
To prove my address
- and we make no charge for this.
Whilst in the distant past I can recall requests used to simply be:
For Home Office purposes (solely for students from overseas).
