CONFERENCE to be held on 4th & 5th July, 2001, at the
University of Leicester, below.
'Legislation and the Equality Challenge: The Implications of
Recent Changes in Legislation for EO Practitioners in Higher
Education'
The aim of this conference is to enable participants to develop a
clearer understanding of the following legislation:
The Human Rights Act
The Disability Discrimination Act
The Special Educational Needs and Disability Rights in Education
Bill
The Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000
Participation in this Conference will allow delegates to:
To reflect on the implications of the legislation for their institution's
policies and practices;
To review the legislative drivers for the equality challenge
To identify what still needs to be done within the framework of the
new legislation and the QAA Codes of Practice
To reflect on the implications of the legislation for their own practice
- either in relation to staff or to students.
To develop personal action plans to effect changes to practice in
light of their increased awareness/understanding of the legislation.
Keynote Speakers are: Francesca Klug, Senior Research Fellow
at King's College London and Director of the Human Rights Act
Research Unit. Joe Charlesworth from the Commission for Racial
Equality and Nick Hawkes from SKILL.
Attendance at the conference will cost 250 pounds for members of
the HEEO Network and 295 pounds for non members.
En-suite accommodation, a wine reception and entertainment are
included.
