Dear Colleagues,
Following an initial canvas of Building and Estates Officers and the
positive response we have had we have now firmed up our plans to hold a
seminar/workshop to exchange ideas on the planning and configuration of
academic staff offices. The aim of this mailing is to broaden the
participation to include other university officers responsible for planning
the use of academic office space in their institution.
The workshop will be held under the auspices of the Missenden Centre and
will be facilitated by Professor John Wakeford, Head of the Centre. The date
when we propose to hold the seminar is on Friday the 27th July. There will
be a dinner on the evening of Thursday 26th July
The format of the seminar/workshops run by Professor John Wakeford is as
follows:
Thursday Evening. ( approx 7pm ) Informal meal with discussion on seminar
subject and what each member wishes to get from the session to be held the
next day. This session outlines an agenda of issues that delegates will
explore the following day.
Friday. Full discussion on problems associated with Academic office space.
Split into 2/3 workshop groups to attempt to solve some particular problems
raised during earlier discussion. Feed back to all colleagues for comment.
Seminar ends at 4 pm prompt.
The discounted rates are:
Thursday evening Meal, conference quality single room accommodation,
breakfast, lunch and seminar -£250
Lunch only on the Friday and seminar-£ 50
VAT extra.
At the moment we have not invited any "specialist organisations" to give a
short presentation to the group but we are considering investigating and
perhaps inviting one or two organisations who have a good record of space
planning offices in our sector to present/participate. Your comments on this
and any recommendations on contacts would be gratefully received
Please advise ASAP to the Email address at top if you are interested, that
the date is acceptable and if you require accommodation.
Any ideas that we should take account of in the detailed planning would be
welcome. This a "joint seminar" on a very difficult problem in our sector
and we at BCUC will detail the contents as we firm up delegates
requirements - hope to see you soon
