Check the Audio Visual Unit at your University. they may have a sound studio
or software loike Cool-Edit, which has a noise reduction feature.

Subject: Transcription Query
My query regards transcribing data. Does anyone know of any
equipment available that would 'clean up' significant background
noise on an audio tape that has a lot of interference?
The most practical answer would be to try and arrange another
interview but this is not possible and the feeling is, what can be
heard of the data, is rich in relevant material.
Any help/ pointers are much appreciated.
Cheers,
Mica
