With all due respect I think that Tony is too negative about the use of
CD-ROMs in this content.
CD-ROMs are currently an ideal (and cheap) dissemination media for digital
material, particularly where it is necessary to collect revenue for the
'product' (this is still not easy to do online as we have learnt at
'Internet Archaeology'!)
The only proviso is that the digital content of the CD-ROM should be curated
and migrated as technology develops to ensure that it can be made available
in other optical formats in due course. This is where Tony and his
colleagues at the ADS come into their own ...
