Jim,
How on earth do you find the time to do this?!

Best thing is probably to retain everything on one single layer for
convenience and ease of use for other database users, but to ensure that
your attached table structure allows you to record the dates of
consultations so that you can select date-based data for the preparation of
statistical info or whatever other purpose....

At the beginning of this year, we started recording all consultations
(whether planning, agri-environment, commercial or other) on a single
separate "consultations" layer on our GIS. We have already found it very
useful as a quick cross-reference to consultations.
At the moment, then, it carries only year 2000 data. We will soon have to
decide whether to have a separate layer for 2001 consultations or continue
to record these on the same layer. I imagine there are pros and cons for
each option. For example, it may be useful to be able to compare and select
annual data on separate layers. On the other hand, there is convenience in
a single layer - not having to remember to load multiple layers to check
previous comments.
Has anyone any comments on these, and preferences or recommendations (with
reasons!)? ADS folk to the fore...?
