One of things that is often forgotten is that the hamstrings work
predominantly in an ECCENTRIC manner, to counteract the
concentric pull of the quads, to decelerate the knee as it comes to
full extension. ie it works in a braking / deceleration mode.
Any rehab should therefore include a componenet of eccentric
hamstring work, rather than concentric. Hamstring recoils as
advocated by Peter Fricker from the Australian Institute of Sport,
are a good example of functional eccentric hamstring exercises.
