Dear listmembers,
While doing research for my PhD thesis, I came across the following note by
Johannes Schlitpacher on his visit of the nunnery Nonnberg in Salzburg:
Item monasterium sanctimonialium N. a statutis regule declinavit, licet
enormes excessus non sint reperti, et omnes visitationi se submiserunt,
aliqua gravamina divini cultus sunt relaxata et ob discrecionem et zelum
abbatisse speratur negotium prsoperari.
Now, I think I get the main points but I've also found an interpretation
that differs from my translation. What I get out of this note is that the
visitors found some minor deviations from the Regula Benedicti that needed
to be corrected; also, that the convent readily submitted to the orders
given; that some heavy duties of office have been eased and that the
visitors were hoping for the abbess to carry out their orders in good
spirit. Is this correct? I'd be very grateful if somebody could confirm or
correct this :)
Greetings,
Susanne Lang
